This piece depicts the Benin king (Oba) in the center flanked by members of his cabinet (Ogies). Immediately to the left and right of the Oba are the Omedas (king's attendants). These men are castrated to discourage foul play within the king's household. This work symbolizes the Oba and his men as the pride of the Benin Empire.
